Skiing in Kitzbühel

The KitzSki area offers approximately 233 kilometres of ski slopes served by around 58 lifts and cable cars. The connected ski area includes Kitzbühel, Kirchberg, Reith, Aurach and Jochberg, providing routes for beginners, families and experienced skiers.

One of the resort’s greatest advantages is the possibility of travelling directly from the historic town centre to the mountains by cable car. Several free practice lifts are also available in the valley, making the destination suitable for beginners and families learning to ski.

The legendary Hahnenkamm and Streif

Kitzbühel is internationally known for the Hahnenkamm ski race, held on the famous Streif downhill course. The steep sections, jumps and high speeds have made it one of the most recognisable and demanding routes in competitive skiing.

The region has cross-country routes for different ability levels, including a high-altitude trail near Pass Thurn at approximately 1,250 metres above sea level.

After a day in the mountains, travellers can visit traditional huts, restaurants and après-ski bars. Popular venues can be found near the Hahnenkamm cable-car station, beside the slopes and in the town centre.

Kitzbühel in summer

During summer, Kitzbühel becomes a popular base for hiking, mountain biking and Alpine excursions. The wider region offers more than 1,000 kilometres of hiking trails and over 80 cycling routes and trails.

Visitors can use summer cable cars to reach mountain paths and panoramic viewpoints. Other activities include golf, climbing, paragliding, swimming, tennis and e-bike tours.

Families can also visit the Aurach Wildlife Park, explore the area around Schwarzsee or choose easier walking and cycling routes through the valleys.

Where to stay in Kitzbühel

Choose central Kitzbühel for convenient access to restaurants, shops, the railway station and the Hahnenkamm cable car. This is the best option for first-time visitors who want to stay close to the town’s main attractions.

Kirchberg in Tirol provides access to the same connected ski area and offers a wide selection of hotels, apartments and nightlife. It can be a practical alternative for travellers looking for accommodation outside the centre of Kitzbühel.

Jochberg is a quieter option with direct access to the southern part of the ski area. It is suitable for travellers looking for peaceful Alpine surroundings and convenient access to the slopes.

Reith near Kitzbühel offers a family-friendly atmosphere, gentle walking routes and quieter accommodation close to the main resort.

Aurach is known for traditional Tyrolean surroundings, natural scenery and a more peaceful atmosphere. It is a good choice for hiking holidays and travellers who prefer to stay away from the busiest streets.
